David L Hughes Is Vice President of Quality Iron and Steel LLC. David lived in West TN and has always called Henderson TN home. He started working summers with his father David W Hughes, Owner and founder of Hughes Welding and Fabrication. At the age of 15, he would work at night detailing (producing shop drawings) for projects his father had sold. This was before the era of CAD software, so it was all done with a pencil on a drafting table. This is where he began learning and developing a passion for the steel industry. Early on, he started out as a connector/ welder and moved up the ladder in his father’s company to a project foreman.
His father decided to retire, and he took over the company. He ran it for several years until an opportunity to make a change presented itself by way of Craig Salabor. Craig came to him with the idea of starting up a new company River City Erectors. He ran it as president for two years and decided that working for himself suited him better. So, they parted ways but continued to do business together. For a while, he continued to work with Sunny Hughes in their Steel Storm Shelter Business. That is when he decided that fabrication was a better solution than the seasonal swings of the storm shelter market. He had fabricated when he was younger. But had always gravitated towards the erection side of the business. Probably, because he received more notoriety from the erection side. Yet, the fabrication side suited his lifestyle better. He had two children at home and did not want to travel as the erection side often required. Today, David feels that his experience on the erection side of the business gives greater insight into the fabrication side of things. With 22-years of experience and broad fabrication knowledge, he understands the full scope of a project. This gives him the ability to envision the project in its entirety. David lives in Henderson, TN with his wife, Sunny Hughes, and their two children. In his time away from the office David enjoys Duck Hunting and Fishing.
